Payment of the cost of the shakuhachi is required up front, and includes shipping with tracking.
If the buyer decides to return the flute and ships it back within a week of its arrival at the their address, and in the same condition it was when shipped out, the full price minus shipping costs will be refunded.
I coordinate an arrival date for the shakuhachi with the buyer, and ship by express mail or Fedex, next or 2nd day, with signature required unless a specific request is made not to. I've never had a flute go missing, but I must make clear I can't offer further protection against loss -- snce the flute has been shipped out, it's the buyer's responsibility to get it safely in hand.
